Resource Descriptions

General Description
"The Central Arlington Heights South Historic District is located in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The district is composed of one- and two-story single-family residences, bungalow courts, and fourplexes that run along 5th, 6th, and 7th Avenues between Venice and Washington Boulevards. The district is sited on a slight plateau and has a northward view of the Santa Monica Mountains. Its streetscape exemplifies early 20th century streetcar suburbanization with its uniform blocks of rectilinear parcels laid out in a square grid pattern. Properties have consistent setbacks with shallow front yards and concrete walkways leading from the sidewalk to front porches. There are recently-planted street trees lining the sidewalks of the district.Styles represented in the district include Craftsman, Spanish Colonial Revival, Mediterranean Revival, and Mission Revival. There are a few Minimal Traditional-style residences as well. Craftsman residences feature wood clapboard siding, partial or full-width front porches, and wide overhanging eaves. Spanish Colonial Revival, Mediterranean Revival, and Mission Revival buildings typically feature stucco cladding and clay tile roofing or clay tile coping. Of the 93 total properties, 73 are contributors to the historic district."
