General Description
"The Wellington Square Historic District is located in Central Los Angeles, directly west of Crenshaw Boulevard, between Washington Boulevard to the north and the Interstate 10 Freeway to the south. Buckingham Road is its western terminus. The district is composed of 208 single-family residences primarily built between 1903 and 1942. The topography of the district is flat, and streets run northeast-southwest. The district is further characterized by its street trees, wide streets, concrete sidewalks, grassy parkways, and a landscaped median at the northern section of Wellington Road. Properties retain uniform setbacks fronted by lawns. Most residences feature concrete driveways with curb cuts leading to detached rear garages. The historic district is largely composed of two-story single-family residences in various Period Revival styles. Styles represented include Mediterranean Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and French Revival, with scattered examples of other styles including American Foursquare and Craftsman. Stucco cladding, clay tile roofing, and arched window and door openings are common architectural features throughout the district. Of the 208 total properties, 166 properties contribute to the historic character of the district."
