    Significance Statement
Excellent example of early institutional development in Westlake; originally constructed as the Ebell Rest Cottage. The Ebell of Los Angeles is an educational and philanthropic organization founded by women in 1894. In 1918, the Rest Cottage Association was formed by members of the Ebell Club to provide a convalescent home for women who needed a place of rest for a time. The association constructed this rest cottage in 1924, designed by renowned architect Sumner Hunt. Hunt's wife was at one time the president of the Ebell Club.
