Resource Descriptions

General Description
"The Arlington Heights Streetcar Residential Historic District consists of single- and multi-family residences on 3rd Avenue and 15th Street, just south of Pico Boulevard, in the Arlington Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The district is sited on a slight plateau with a northern view of the Santa Monica Mountains. Streets follow a rectilinear grid pattern. Single-family properties comprising the district have uniform setbacks and front lawns. The fourplexes and apartment houses were built to maximize lot coverage. Many properties have detached rear garages, and additional residences have been added at the rear of several lots. All properties are one or two stories in height. Earlier dwellings are transitional in style, with some exhibiting design elements characteristic of both the Victorian and Arts and Crafts modes of architecture. Those from the 1910s are generally Craftsman in style, featuring wood clapboard siding, partial or full-width porches, and overhanging eaves. There are 22 buildings in the historic district; all are contributors."
