General Description
"The Crenshaw Knolls Historic District is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles. It is located directly east of Crenshaw Boulevard and includes primarily one-story, single-family residences spanning seven blocks between 74th and 79th Streets. There are two churches within the district as well. The topography of the district is flat, and the district is distinguished by its rectilinear, gridded street pattern and a relative absence of street trees. Houses feature consistent setbacks and are fronted by broad lawns, concrete sidewalks and grassy parkways. Nearly all buildings have concrete driveways with curb cuts leading to rear, detached single-car garages. Most of the dwellings within the district are one-story, Spanish Colonial Revival houses. Residences typically feature stucco cladding, clay tile roofing, arched entryways, leaded glass windows, and address number signs in the shape of coats of arms. Of the 260 total properties within the district, 218 contribute to its historic significance."
