General Description
- "Crenshaw Village is located just north of the Baldwin Hills neighborhood in South Los Angeles. The district includes two-story multi-family apartment buildings from Hillcrest Drive to Buckingham Road, between Palmwood Drive and Don Diablo Drive. The topography of the complex has a northerly downward slope, descending from Baldwin Hills. Streets curve slightly but follow a general grid pattern. Long blocks are divided by landscaped walkways and grassy areas between buildings. Lot sizes are fairly consistent, and properties retain uniform setbacks fronted by lawns and concrete sidewalks. Detached garages are located at the rear of the properties and are accessed via alleys.The garden apartment complex consists of eight, twelve, and sixteen-unit apartment houses designed in the Minimal Traditional style. All of the buildings are two stories in height, sheathed in stucco, and covered by low-pitched hipped roofs. Most buildings are L- or U- shaped in plan. Common architectural features include vertical or horizontal string courses, multi-light steel casement windows, and sections of horizontal board siding. Architectural details tend to be concentrated at entryways. Of the 96 total properties, all are contributors to the historic district."
